ALTA CAPACITAT DE GUARDA

Directly from the Soul of Sant Sebastià dels Gorgs

Clara and Ramón Raventós-Basagoiti always
shared a vision:
to elevate and celebrate sparkling wines, the soul of our viticultural culture. With this clear determination, this journey was undertaken in a unique enclave, conceived as a meeting point for everyone.

The winery merges contemporary architecture with the aesthetics of a traditional Catalan farmhouse. In this corner, there is a refuge from the frenetic pace of the world, emphasizing the importance of appreciating the beauty of nature with humility and respect.
Over the years, challenges have been overcome, knowledge accumulated, inspiration found and setbacks faced. Each experience has paved the way to this sanctuary, where radiant and genuine wines emerge from lands overflowing with life. By establishing innovative guidelines, the aim is not only to revitalize our own vineyards but also those nearby, through collaborations that enrich and strengthen the environment. The ecological commitment began in 2010 and since 2016, biodynamic practices have been adopted. Today, we celebrate the rewards of our hard work.

The Contemporary Masía

In Sant Sebastià dels Gorgs, our modern Masía combines traditional Catalan farmhouse elements with contemporary design. A “Masía” is a classic rural home in Catalonia, Spain, known for its rustic stone build and central courtyard. It’s a symbol of Catalonia’s rich architectural and cultural heritage. Meticulously designed to achieve a production of 80,000
to 90,000 bottles in 8 years, this 1,500m2 structure harmoniously integrates into the landscape, valuing the pre-existing vineyards. Distributed across three levels: the basement serves as the dedicated space for fermentation, often referred to as the “fermentation sanctuary”; the mezzanine offers the tasting room, kitchen and laboratories; and the ground floor is dedicated to the social space.

Its bioclimatic design is characterized by a central courtyard essential for the thermal regulation of the building, taking advantage of natural ventilation. Modern passive methods, like sun tracking, enhanced facade insulation, and sun shielding, are used. We achieve complete energy self- sufficiency with forty solar panels and aerothermal systems

for heating and hot water. Recycling wastewater and collecting rainwater highlight our dedication to sustainability. Drawing from years of experience, this project centers on what’s important and eliminates the superfluous. The focus is on the wine, avoiding administrative distractions. We’ve thoughtfully selected the location to protect our vineyards. While we don’t market it as a tourist spot, we warmly welcome distributors and special customers. Our goal is to produce wine passionately, share its story, and keep an organic approach as we shift to biodynamics. Every bottle has its tale, and every sip speaks of its roots.

MANIFIESTO

  • We have made a radical commitment to uniqueness, freshness and terroir that requires us to live dedicated to an extraordinarily demanding way of working.
  • We do not follow passing fashions; our wines are the genuine fruit of an idea and an estate that we intend to be part of many people’s lives in the future and to help improve the ecosystems to which it belongs with its work.
  • Despite our deep connection with the traditional method, we do not let that limit our approach. Aging in the cellar is just one part (and not necessarily the most important) of the production process.
  • We carefully select those who are part of our story, prioritizing long-lasting relationships with the constant goal of exceeding expectations.
  • Raventós-Basagoiti is a living organism, part of an ecosystem that it aims to enrich with its work.
  • We have adopted ecological practices since 2010, and on our main plot, biodynamic since 2016, all our plots will be certified as biodynamic in 2024.

Essence and Values

Raventós-Basagoiti wines are sparkling wines crafted MANIFIESTO traditionally from select parts of our estate. Their essence is their freshness. We focus on the wine’s natural intensity and unique texture, avoiding any unwanted alterations.

VINTAGE

2021 posed challenges due to tough weather conditions, pushing our estate to its limits. This year stands out for the determination of our region’s winemakers.

Early-year frosts affected many vines, and heatwaves hit during key ripening times. Combined with unpredictable rains, careful vineyard management was crucial for grape health and harvest quality. Consequently, the 2021 wines are distinctive, full of character, and unexpectedly fresh given the conditions.

PRODUCTION
Grapes sourced from estate plots, grown organically and biodynamically. The 2023 vintage, like 2022, confirmed that this approach not only enriches life in the vineyard but also protects it against droughts and heatwaves, allowing us to harvest each plot at its optimal ripeness. Hand-harvested in 18 kg boxes, with overnight refrigeration to 6 °C before pressing.
Whole-bunch pressing with low yields and slow fermentations at very low temperatures. 15% of the Macabeo closest to the winery was vinified in 500 L Allier oak barrels, along with part of the Xarel·lo from the ‘Corral’ plot. Aged on fine lees for 8 months in small tanks and barrels, until two weeks before bottling in late May 2024. Produced exclusively by the traditional method using base wines from the 2023 vintage. Disgorged in May 2025. .

AGING POTENTIAL
Our wines have a notable aging capacity, but are ready to be enjoyed from the moment of disgorgement. We recommend storing it in a cool place at a stable temperature.

ENVIRONMENT
The landscape uniting the plots of these three varieties is key to defining the wine’s personality. The estate, planted mostly in bush vines between the 1950s and late 1980s, is managed according to ecological and biodynamic principles to preserve fruit vibrancy and faithfully express this terroir.

TASTING NOTES
Fresh, fine fruit with the rustic edge that characterises Inicial. Low alcohol coexists with depth, complexity and freshness. The addition of less than 2 g/L of sugar in the dosage is virtually imperceptible — a level that, in other regions, would be classified as Brut Nature, though we choose not to use this terminology.

SYMBOLISM
The orange-toned label recalls the characteristic colour of our soils. Its central symbol is inspired by the 11th-century Romanesque monastery of Sant Sebastià dels Gorgs, located next to the estate and a historic source of viticultural inspiration in the area.

PRODUCTION
2023 marks a clear statement of intent: Principal is the core of this project, the wine we dreamed of making ever since, after six harvests on the estate, we began to conceive Raventós-Basagoiti as a concept free from preconceptions, focused solely on showing the greatness of this place and preserving the unique fruit from a vineyard cultivated continuously since the time of the Roman Republic.
We farm the estate biodynamically, convinced that enriching the soil directly benefits life and wine quality. Hand-harvested in 18 kg boxes, with overnight refrigeration to 6 °C before pressing.
Whole-bunch pressing with low yields and slow fermentations at very low temperatures. Fine lees were carefully worked for 8 months in small tanks and barrels, until two weeks before bottling in late May 2024. In Principal, the proportion of base wines vinified in 500 L Allier oak barrels reaches 40%, adding greater depth and complexity.
Produced exclusively by the traditional method using grapes from the estate’s Oliverà, Parxet and central Macabeo sector plots.

AGING POTENTIAL
A wine with outstanding aging potential thanks to the uniqueness of its plots and meticulous winemaking. It can be enjoyed from disgorgement or stored for years, gaining in complexity and subtlety.

ENVIRONMENT
The estate, planted mostly in bush vines between the 1950s and late 1980s, yields grapes that are intense, fresh, delicate and elegant. Its biodynamic management aims to preserve the fruit’s vibrancy and express the deepest, finest and most subtle identity of this terroir.

TASTING NOTES
We do not provide tasting notes for Principal: we prefer that the public discovers it for themselves, with our guidance. We will say that its subtlety, depth, delicacy and balance arise naturally from these privileged plots. The addition of less than 1.5 g/L of sugar in the dosage is virtually imperceptible, a level that, in other regions, would be classified as Brut Nature, though we choose not to use this terminology.

SYMBOLISM
The label and name refer to its central role within the project: the purest, most precise expression of the estate, crafted with the commitment and attention a unique vineyard deserves.

VINTAGE 2023
2023 is the vintage in which we make a clear statement of intent. It was marked by nearly three consecutive years of drought, though on this estate the slightly higher soil moisture at the end of spring, compared to 2022, helped to mitigate its effects.
The low yields we require from our biodynamic farming helped to counterbalance the clear lack of water. We maintained our commitment to preserving the natural cover crop, though a light surface tilling was necessary to direct as much moisture as possible to the vines. This was always done with the aim of protecting the flora and fauna we have so carefully established, essential for the balance of this environment and for the uniqueness of the wines born here.

ALLOCATION SYSTEM

We set allocations twice a year. These are distributed among all the clients and friends we are fortunate to serve. Due to the meticulousness and high standards with which we approach each process, our wine production is limited. Therefore, each allocation request is carefully evaluated, ensuring that each bottle reaches those who truly appreciate its essence and origin.

Even though the demand is high, our commitment is to review each request with the attention it deserves and communicate availability and delivery times as quickly
as possible. Our goal is for each friend and customer to connect with the story behind every bottle, year after year.
